Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday directed energy officials to increase daily thermal power generation to 140 million units (MU) from the current 118 million units to meet rising electricity demand during the rabi and summer seasons amid reduced hydel generation.

At a review meeting held at the Secretariat, Bhatti, who holds power portfolio, asked officials to operate all thermal power units at maximum capacity, improve the Plant Load Factor (PLF) and monitor generation daily to ensure adequate supply to agricultural and domestic consumers.

Officials informed him that average daily thermal power generation had reached about 91 MU, while generation touched 118 MU on a recent day.

The average daily power generation by Telangana Generation Corporation (TGGenco) plants has increased from 65.9 MU in 2024-25 to 90.97 MU as of October 21 in the current financial year.

An alternative coal supply arrangement has been made with Coal India Limited to ensure uninterrupted operation of two units at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant from November.

Four 800-MW units at Yadadri are already generating electricity. The fifth unit was synchronised with the grid on October 20, while officials are addressing the remaining technical and operational issues before commencing full commercial operations.

Bhatti also directed officials to prepare proposals for a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to enable closed industries to clear pending electricity dues. The power distribution companies, TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL, were asked to coordinate with eligible industries and explain the applicable rules and settlement options.

He instructed the finance department to recover outstanding dues owed by various government departments to Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Genco, Transco and other power sector organisations.

Energy special chief secretary Naveen Mittal and senior officials from Genco, Transco, SPDCL and RPDCL attended the meeting. The government said departments would coordinate to maintain uninterrupted power supply across Telangana.
