Kishan Reddy To Visit Australia To Boost Critical Minerals Partnership
Six-day visit to focus on lithium, rare earths, mining technology, joint ventures and investment opportunities.
Hyderabad: Union coal minister G. Kishan Reddy will undertake a six-day visit to Australia, covering Sydney and Melbourne, from October 25 to 30 to deepen India’s cooperation with Canberra and other resource-rich nations in critical minerals, mining technology, processing and research.
The visit was aimed at securing long-term supplies of minerals essential for India’s electric vehicle, battery manufacturing, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing sectors, a statement said. Kishan Reddy will also explore investment opportunities in Indian mining projects, joint exploration, technology transfer, skill development and value-added processing.
In Sydney, Kishan Reddy will attend the International Mining and Resources Conference and Expo (IMARC)-2026, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on global opportunities. He will inaugurate NMDC’s Sydney office and review its operations. He will also open the India Pavilion being set up by NMDC at the conference.
Kishan Reddy will hold a meeting with Australian Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Madeleine King, on October 27. He is also expected to meet representatives of leading Australian mining companies, BRAVUS (the rebranded Australian corporate arm of Adani Group) and a CII mining delegation.
He will take part in a round-table with the Minerals Council of Australia on critical minerals and rare earths, to be attended by Australian assistant minister for resources Anthony Chisholm on October 28. He will then travel to Melbourne, where he will inaugurate the Australia office of NBCC (National Buildings Construction Corporation of India) and witness the exchange of MoUs between NBCC and Goldfields Australia.
At Monash University on October 29, Kishan Reddy will attend discussions on new mining technologies, environmental protection, mineral resource development, joint research and skill development. He will also inspect research facilities and hold talks with university officials and senior scientists of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy on professional training and environmentally sustainable mining practices.
The visit seeks to build on the India-Australia MoU of June 2020 covering critical minerals, strategic mineral mining, processing and coal gasification, the statement said. A key priority will be identifying investment opportunities through KABIL(Khanij Bidesh India Limited ) in lithium, cobalt, nickel, rare earth and graphite projects.
Officials said the visit would also focus on linking Indian companies with Australian project developers, exploring joint ventures and setting up refining and processing facilities for lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate in India or third countries. The MoU reached between the Geological Survey of India and Geoscience Australia in July 2026 will provide further impetus to scientific and technical collaboration.
