Minister Uttam Promises Desiltation of Reservoirs, Irrigation Projects

Efforts on to increase their water storage capacity

Adilabad:Minister for major irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Wednesday said that the state government will take up desiltation works in the Lower Manair and Mid-Manair Dams in Karimnagar and the Kadam project in Nirmal and Nizamsagar in Nizamabad district.

This would help increase the water storage capacity of the respective reservoirs, he said while inaugurating the Jakora and Chandur lift irrigation schemes, which were completed with a fund of `106 crore. The aim is to provide water to 7975 acres in Banswada.

Uttam Kumar addressed a meeting at Jakora after inaugurating the two lift irrigation schemes. He said the state government was giving priority to the irrigation schemes in the north Telangana districts and added, “The Nizamsagar project is important and is a lifeline in the North Telangana districts.”

The minister said many irrigation projects constructed during the Congress rule were still intact in Telangana and serving the people without any damage.

He inspected the Siddapur reservoir construction works on the field in Varni mandal in Nizamabad district. Former minister and adviser to the state government, Pocahram Srinivas Reddy, Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar, Nizamabad collector Ila Tripati, Kamareddy SP Rajesh Chandra and others were present.
