HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) remain ill‑prepared for this year’s monsoon, with several works on stormwater drains still incomplete. Nala encroachments are yet to be cleared, desilting has not been done properly, narrow channels remain un‑widened, poor road design persists, and garbage dumping continues to choke drains.

Officials admitted that new waterlogging points have emerged across the city, worsening commuting woes even during short spells of rain. Records show 535 waterlogging points in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) — 145 in GHMC, 202 in Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and 188 in Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation.

On Tuesday, rains created fresh water-logging near Kondapur Road by Botanical Gardens, though the Kothaguda Flyover remained clear after its vents were cleaned. In contrast, Lumbini Avenue in Gachibowli was among the worst hit, with knee‑deep water near Biodiversity Junction. Two‑wheelers floated and cars were submerged, a situation blamed on the absence of a proper stormwater and drainage network, compounded by clogged nalas that obstruct flow into Khajaguda Lake.
