Man Held for ‘Cheating’ Unemployed Youth of Rs 85 Lakh
During the investigations into a case registered at Kazipet police station, police found that Praveen Kumar lured unemployed candidates with promises of government jobs through sports quota, NCC quota and backdoor recruitment.
Kazipet:The Kazipet police arrested a 41-year-old man on Wednesday on a charge of cheating some unemployed youths of around Rs 85 lakh by promising to arrange government jobs for them.
Kazipet ACP Pingili Prashanth Reddy said the accused, Mettu Praveen Kumar, a native of Nizamabad, allegedly collected cash, gold, educational certificates and other documents from several candidates by promising them posts such as tax assistant and income tax officer in the Income Tax department.
During the investigations into a case registered at Kazipet police station, police found that Praveen Kumar lured unemployed candidates with promises of government jobs through sports quota, NCC quota and backdoor recruitment.
Police said he showed candidates some government job websites and prepared fake appointment orders and memorandums by altering names in copies of previously issued recruitment orders.
He also conducted medical examinations and ‘police verifications’ to make the candidates believe the recruitment process was genuine.
Police said he also misrepresented orientation programmes and IT courses conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) as government job training programmes.
Police have listed nine victims. According to the police, Praveen Kumar collected Rs 5 lakh from Gangidi Randheer, Rs 15 lakh from MD Sameer, Rs 3 lakh from Agaboyin Lenin, Rs 4 lakh in cash and four tolas of gold from Panjala Naresh, Rs 7 lakh from Pittala Karthik, Rs 10 lakh from Anaganti Sai Kiran Goud, Rs 12 lakh from Mulugu Shailesh Kumar, Rs 10 lakh from Nomula Ajay Goud, Rs 9 lakh from Gummula Praneeth and Rs 10 lakh from Mamidala Saketh. He also allegedly collected educational and employment-related documents from the victims.
Police seized Rs 2 lakh in cash, a Maruti Brezza car valued at Rs 14 lakh, a Dell laptop valued at Rs 50,000, an iPhone 17 Pro Max worth Rs 1.30 lakh, an Oppo phone valued at Rs 40,000 and two keypad phones. The total value of the cash and property seized was estimated at Rs 18.22 lakh.
Original educational certificates and employment-related documents belonging to five victims, along with material allegedly used to prepare fake appointment orders, were also recovered.
Police said several cheating cases had previously been registered against Praveen Kumar at Makloor, Nallakunta, Hanamkonda, Balkonda, Nizamabad Rural and Mortad police stations.
ACP Prashanth Reddy cautioned the people against paying money to anyone promising government jobs through backdoor recruitment or special quotas. He advised candidates to verify recruitment details only through official notifications and websites of the concerned government departments.
