A large number of children underwent Aksharabhyasam at the Basar temple on Friday on the occasion of Moola Nakshatram, considered the birth star of Goddess Saraswati. The ritual was organised as part of Sharadeeya Navaratri celebrations.

Temple authorities made elaborate arrangements for devotees and began the initiation of children into learning in the early hours. Children and their parents waited in queues for the ceremony.

Hundreds of devotees from across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra visited the temple, took a holy dip and had darshan. The authorities set up three Aksharabhyasam mandapams to avoid inconvenience to children and their parents.

Devotees faced hot weather conditions during the celebrations. Basar temple executive officer Katta Anjani Devi said 10 large coolers had been installed to keep temperatures under control. Milk, biscuits and cool drinking water were also provided to children waiting in queues.

She said Aksharabhyasam would begin at 5 am on Saturday.
