Hyderabad:The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has urged residents, builders and commercial establishments to conserve water and reuse treated wastewater in view of the potential impact of El Nino conditions on rainfall and water availability. The corporation has asked sewage treatment plant (STP) operators to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of treatment facilities and promote the reuse of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes, including landscaping, park maintenance and construction activities wherever technically feasible.

The corporation has also advised apartment complexes and commercial establishments to adopt water-efficient landscaping, use native plants, install efficient irrigation systems and maintain rainwater-harvesting structures. Residents have been urged to repair leaking taps and pipelines promptly and avoid unnecessary water wastage in their daily activities.

The corporation said water conservation measures and the reuse of treated wastewater could help reduce dependence on fresh water and ease pressure on available resources. Any mandatory restrictions, it added, would be implemented in accordance with applicable regulations and directions from the competent authorities.
