HYDERABAD: The HMWS&SB plans to launch Green Water Tanker services from November 1 which will supply treated wastewater for construction, industries and parks through GPS-equipped tankers and online bookings. The service is intended to reduce dependence on groundwater and drinking water. Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy reviewed preparations on Friday amid concerns over the El Nino conditions. The initiative follows Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directions.

The board will assess demand at construction sites, commercial complexes, government establishments and gated communities before identifying nearby government and private sewage treatment plants as filling stations. Officials must arrange filling platforms, pumps and flow meters.

Every tanker will require special branding and GPS tracking. Electronic point-of-sale machines at filling stations will record the volume supplied, while a proposed mobile app will manage registrations, bookings, tanker allocation, digital payments and delivery confirmation.

Customers who own tankers may use the service under prescribed rules. Others can book vehicles registered with HMWSSB.

Ashok Reddy also directed officials to continuously test water quality and conduct awareness campaigns among builders, industries and the public. Treated water is intended for non-drinking purposes, including plantation work, road cleaning and dust control.
