Hyderabad: This year’s Alai Balai celebrations, to be held at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on October 22, will carry the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat, former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya announced.
He said the theme was intended to reinforce government efforts to prevent youth from falling into drug abuse and to support those seeking recovery.
Dattatreya expressed concern over the growing number of young people becoming victims of substance abuse, saying several families were enduring trauma.
He stressed the need for sustained awareness and called upon civil society to work with the government in protecting youth and helping victims reintegrate into society.
He recalled that Alai Balai had played a significant role during the separate Telangana movement by bringing leaders and people from different political parties onto a common platform, rising above political differences.
He described it as an important forum for social harmony, cultural exchange and unity.
Alai Balai Foundation chairperson Bandaru Vijaya Laxmi said Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would attend as chief guest.
Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are also expected to participate.
She said the event, initiated by Dattatreya in 2005, has evolved into one of Telangana’s prominent post-Dasara socio-cultural gatherings, showcasing traditions, folk arts and cuisine.
The celebrations will feature Bathukamma, Bonalu, Dappu, Gussadi and Kolatam, along with cultural performances and Telangana cuisine.
The programme seeks to bring alive the “soul of Telangana” while promoting social harmony and cultural pride, she said.
