HRC Seeks Report From Sircilla DMHO On Alleged Wrong-Eye Operation
Telangana Human Rights Commission seeks a report from Sircilla DMHO after a woman’s family alleged that surgery was performed on the wrong eye.
The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has sought a report from the Sircilla District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) over an alleged wrong-eye operation on a woman.
The commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports about the incident and directed the DM&HO to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report.
Acting on the commission’s directions, DM&HO Dr G. Anjela Alfred formed an inquiry team to examine the incident. She said the report would be submitted to the TGHRC on Wednesday.
Kommu Venkamma, a resident of Kammarigalli in Sircilla town, approached an eye hospital in Sircilla on September 28. After a check-up, doctors reportedly found problems in both her eyes and advised her to undergo surgery after bringing her blood sugar levels under control.
She went to the hospital on Monday for the operation. According to her family, doctors had informed them that the left eye would be operated on, but the procedure was performed on the right eye.
The family members questioned the doctors, who reportedly said there was no issue with operating on the right eye as she had a problem in both eyes.
Hospital authorities, however, said doctors examined her eyes in the operation theatre and found that the problem was more serious in the right eye. They said the operation was performed with the patient’s consent. They added that they had tried to contact her family members but they were not available at the time.
