HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will reconstruct five ministry of defence (MoD) establishments as a part of the land acquisition process to build Paradise-Shamirpet Elevated Corridor on State Highway-1, Rajiv Rahadari.

The five major structures are the facilities belonging to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), HQ 54 Infantry Division, Senior Quality Assurance Establishment (SQAE), Trishul Lines and Training Battalion units. The construction includes new compound walls, underground water sumps, damaged utilities related to electricity and sewage and other Army assets.

At DGQA and HQ 54 Infantry Division area ₹7.20 crore will be spent, at SQAE Armaments (P24) works with ₹6.81 crore will be taken up at , Trishul Lines near Lothkunta Junction (₹5.72 crore), JCOs Married Accommodation near Alwal Junction (₹5.95 crore) and Training Battalion (2TB) facilities.

“We will complete the works within the next six months. The works would be closely monitored by the Military Engineering Services (MES) and defence engineering personnel to ensure compliance with strict security norms,” said a HMDA official.

In addition to this, contractors executing the works were instructed to adhere to defence security protocols throughout the construction period and the construction activity should not interfere with military operations or routine functioning inside defence zones at any cost.

According to HMDA officials, this project also reflects a growing trend of coordinated urban planning between civilian authorities and defence establishments in Hyderabad, where large tracts of cantonment and military land often intersect with expanding metropolitan infrastructure needs.

“Despite large land parcels of Local Military Authority (LMA) and Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) land intersecting with expanding metropolitan infrastructure needs in a city, this project is being executed,” said an engineer from the HMDA.

Estimated at ₹2,232.89 crore, the 18.10-kilometre Rajiv Rahadari is being executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. This corridor requires acquisition of 114 acre of Defence land and 78 acres of private land.

This elevated corridor will also have an aesthetic view and will be a six-lane road passing through busy places including West Marredpally, Karkhana, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet and Thumkunta and heading towards the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Junction in Shamirpet.

The benefits of the project include reduction in commute time from Paradise to Shamirpet in addition to a smooth hassle-free ride becoming a prominent infrastructure project connecting the ORR to places in Northern parts of Telangana.
