11-Year-Old Boy Dies of Rabies After Stray Dog Bite in Rajanna Sircilla
He sustained injuries to his head and eyes and was taken to the Sircilla Government Hospital
KARIMNAGAR: An 11-year-old boy died of rabies in Mamidipalli village of Konaraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district on Friday night, days after he was bitten by a stray dog.
According to sources, the boy, a Class V student at a government school, was attacked on April 23 while playing cricket near his house during summer vacation. He sustained injuries to his head and eyes and was taken to the Sircilla Government Hospital, where he received initial treatment.
On May 7, he developed fever and abnormal behaviour. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad, where doctors diagnosed rabies, stating that the infection had affected his central nervous system. He died while undergoing treatment.
The victim has been identified as Nishanth. His father, Lokurthi Raju, is working in Saudi Arabia, while his mother Mamata earns a livelihood by rolling beedis.
Health officials said people should immediately wash animal bite wounds with soap and complete the prescribed course of anti-rabies vaccination.
