Hyderabad: BRS Assembly deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that a land scam worth nearly Rs.1,000 crore had taken place in Shamshabad with 170 acres of government land being illegally converted into private patta land.

Addressing a press conference, Harish Rao said the land in Survey No.s 173 and 183 in Peddashapur of Shamshabad mandal, was identified by the revenue divisional officer (RDO) as government land and that the tahsildar was instructed to protect it from encroachment and include it in the prohibited list under Section 22-A. The same was mentioned in an affidavit submitted before the High Court on January 30, 2026, Harish Rao said.

While the tahsildar reconfirmed the status of the land on February 24, on February 28, the same tahsildar reportedly passed orders declaring the land as private property, Harish Rao alleged. “How did government land suddenly become private land within four days,” he asked.

The government dusted its hands off by transferring the tahsildar to the collectorate. Though ACB officials started a probe, they withdrew due to pressure from the government, Harish Rao alleged.

He said the land was entered into the Bhu Bharati records without mandatory approvals from the RDO, and that the mutation into private land status was completed overnight. He demanded the immediate restoration of the land into the prohibited list, and that a SIT or CID inquiry must be held to probe the scam. The roles of the collector, CCLA officials, senior bureaucrats and political leaders allegedly linked to the issue, must also be investigated, he said.
