Hyderabad:Minorities welfare minister Mohammed Azharuddin informed the Assembly that the proposal for establishing a new Haj House (Rubaat) for pilgrims was under consideration, at an estimated cost of `86 crore. The proposal was in connection with the announcement made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in May 2025, while flagging off Haj pilgrims.

Responding to the questions raised by MIM floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the Assembly on Thursday, Azharuddin informed that Haj House was being planned at Mamidipalli in Balapur mandal, on approximately two acres of Waqf land. He stated that a government team had recently visited Bengaluru to study the functioning and facilities of the Haj House there.

Responding positively to suggestions made by Owaisi, Azharuddin said that he would convene a meeting of legislators from the minority community to discuss the proposed Haj House and seek their suggestions on various important and contentious issues, including the future utilisation of the existing building at Nampally.

Owaisi had highlighted the hardships faced by pilgrims at the Nampally facility and stressed the need for a newly planned layout to eliminate these difficulties. In view of the Telangana Waqf Board not holding meetings for more than a year, he wondered if the board still existed. Restrictions on holding these meetings emerged following the passage of the new Central Waqf Amendment Act, which triggered questions over the legal composition and quorum of existing state boards.

Owaisi demanded the immediate constitution of a new Waqf Board and sought a response from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Bhatti assured him that a meeting of stakeholders would be organised to resolve the issues.
