Food Safety Teams Inspect 46 Establishments, Suspend Licences of Three
TG SAFE officials sent 22 food samples for testing on suspicion of adulteration. Spoiled and rotten vegetables and other food articles found to be infested with pests were discarded on the spot.
Hyderabad:Food safety officials inspected 46 restaurants, hotels, bakeries, dhabas, sweet shops and hostels in districts outside the Core Urban Region and found several violations, including use of spoiled meat and vegetables, pest infestation and unhygienic conditions. The inspections were carried out as part of a special drive by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs(TG SAFE).
Officials found cockroaches, houseflies and rodents at some establishments. They also found expired food items, pest-infested food articles and food handlers not maintaining proper hygiene. Refrigerators in some establishments were being maintained in an unclean condition, with improper segregation and labelling of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items. Violations in the maintenance of records were also found.

Improvement notices will be issued to 23 establishments, directing them to rectify the lapses. Officials will revisit these establishments to verify compliance with food safety norms and take further action based on the findings.
The FSSAI licences of three establishments would be suspended, with instructions to stop business operations immediately in the interest of public health —Mahendra Meals, Biryani and Curry Point at Station Ghanpur; Sri Balaji MagicMithai at Baopet, Karimnagar; and Cha Cha Family Dhaba on NH-65 at Tupranpet, Choutuppal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
