Food Safety Violations: Licences of Four Banjara Hills Eateries Suspended
The licences of Lakshmi Sri Balaji Sweets and Bakery, Girl Friend Mandi, Kholani’s Fine Dine Restaurant and Kakatiya Tiffins Meals and Snacks in Banjara Hills have been suspended, with instructions to stop business operations immediately.
Hyderabad:The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licences of four food establishments in Banjara Hills after inspections found pest infestation, expired food items, unhygienic kitchens and violations in food storage and record maintenance. The action was taken during a special drive conducted by 10 enforcement teams comprising food safety officers and police personnel which inspected 21 restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, hotels and hostels in Banjara Hills and Lakdikapul.
The licences of Lakshmi Sri Balaji Sweets and Bakery, Girl Friend Mandi, Kholani’s Fine Dine Restaurant and Kakatiya Tiffins Meals and Snacks in Banjara Hills have been suspended, with instructions to stop business operations immediately.
TG SAFE collected 13 food samples on suspicion of adulteration. Improvement notices will be issued to eight establishments — 7 Sisters Restaurant, Momentale Hospitality Pvt Ltd (Habitat Cafe), The Nawab’s Restaurant, Keshava Reddy Sweets, Seasons Express Restaurant and All Seasons Restaurant in Banjara Hills, and Sri Venkateshwara Lodge and Ashoka Hotel in Lakdikapul.
Show-cause notices would be issued to Casa Laban, Sarvi Food Court and Dakini Sweet Treats in Banjara Hills and The Central Court Hotel in Lakdikapul. Further action, including penalties, will be initiated based on the violations.
At Lakshmi Sri Balaji Sweets and Bakery, officials reported pest infestation, expired food articles, poor personal hygiene, unhygienic food preparation and lack of records. Girl Friend Mandi was found to have cockroach and rodent infestation, improperly maintained refrigerators and storage areas and inadequate records.
Kholani’s Fine Dine Restaurant was found to have an unhygienic kitchen, poorly maintained refrigerators, vegetables contaminated with fungus, improper garbage disposal and lack of records. At Kakatiya Tiffins Meals and Snacks, officials found labelling violations, unhygienic premises, poor hygiene among food handlers, rodent infestation, rotten vegetables and lack of records.
Officials also found spoiled or contaminated meat and vegetables at some establishments, which were discarded on the spot. Expired and pest-infested food articles were also discarded.
