Govt Prioritising Healthcare for Healthy Telangana: Ponnam

Hyderabad: Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar said that the State government is according the highest priority to the medical sector with the goal of a healthy Telangana.

On Tuesday, the Minister, along with local MLA V Naveen Yadav, District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan and other senior officials visited the Basti Dawakhana.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the State government is according the highest priority to the medical sector and has brought many revolutionary changes in the medical sector.

He directed that every patient who visits should be provided better medical services. Doctors explained that the Basti Dawakhana receives 100 to 150 OP patients every day. He instructed that the OP number at the Dawakhana should be increased and that patients should be treated courteously.

At the hospital, the Minister himself underwent a sugar, blood and BP tests. He directed the medical officers to ensure that all types of tests required by patients are conducted at Basti Dawakhanas in the district.

The Minister clarified that special officers have been appointed for the 169 Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad to improve treatment facilities and build confidence among the public. He said that they have been directed to visit the Basti Dawakhanas and submit a report on the treatment being provided to patients, infrastructure facilities in the hospitals and the measures to be taken to increase the OP number.

The Minister clarified that this programme has been undertaken to take necessary measures with Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha to ensure that the Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad remains at the forefront in the State.

The Minister stated that GHMC officials and District Collectorate officials working in Hyderabad and public representatives have been made in-charges for the 169 Basti Dawakhanas.

He said that each Basti Dawakhana would be inspected to examine treatment details and infrastructure facilities and that all necessary measures would be taken on behalf of the Government to make them more useful to poor people.

The Minister said that he visited the Borabanda Vinayak Nagar Basti Dawakhana as an observer and that it was brought to his notice that one staff nurse post is vacant there. He said that a format has been given for the development of Basti Dawakhanas and that measures would be taken to provide the necessary infrastructure and ensure there is no shortage of medicines.

He stated that Basti Dawakhanas would be developed beyond politics to ensure that they function well and stated that issues requiring action at the Government level for Basti Dawakhanas would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and steps would be taken to resolve the problems.

The Minister stated that breakfast and lunch are being provided at Indiramma canteens in Hyderabad in association with ISKCON and that the food items are receiving a good response.
