Free Cancer Screening for Sanitation Workers

Hyderabad:The GHMC organised a free mobile cancer awareness and screening camp for sanitation workers and employees at its Head Office on Lower Tank Bund. Screening tests were conducted for oral, breast and cervical cancers among women, while men underwent oral cancer checks.
The programme is funded by the Indian Cancer Society, and GHMC officials said 20 circles have already been covered. Commissioner R.V. Karnan inspected the screening process during the camp.
“This camp is organised with a special focus on sanitation workers. If diseases are detected at an early stage, treatment becomes easier. This initiative is very beneficial for sanitation workers,” said S. Shailaja, a junior assistant in the Corporation’s Health Section.
G. Pramila, a sanitation worker from Malkapet, said she was overwhelmed by the initiative. “It is heartening that GHMC is organising free cancer awareness and screening camps for sanitation workers and employees. I am encouraging fellow workers to get screened,” she added.
