A team of 28 officials and journalists from 18 countries visited the Ramappa Temple in Mulugu district on Saturday and admired its Kakatiya-era architecture, construction techniques and intricate sculptures.

The visit was part of a two-week international training programme conducted by the Dr Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute, Hyderabad, under the ITEC programme of the Ministry of External Affairs.

A guide explained the temple’s architectural features, construction techniques and sculptures. The delegates were particularly impressed by the sand foundation technology used to withstand earthquakes and the lightweight bricks used in the temple tower to reduce its weight.

They also admired the delicate sculptures carved on black stone, intricate dance poses and sculptures featuring fine perforations.

“Learning how the Kakatiyas developed such advanced construction techniques centuries ago was fascinating. We were amazed by the way they combined art, science and engineering,” the delegates said.

They described Ramappa as a testimony to India’s ancient knowledge, creativity and cultural heritage.
