Auto Workers Hail Fare Hike, Rally In Support
The union called upon Autorickshaw workers to maintain unity: Reports
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Autorickshaw Workers Union on Saturday hailed the state government’s decision to raise the minimum auto fare from ₹20 to ₹30 for the first 1.6 kilometers and to increase the subsequent fare from ₹11 to ₹14 per kilometre. Led by Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy and general secretary Mallesh Goud, the union took out a rally thanking Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the move.
The union called upon Autorickshaw workers to maintain unity, follow the revised government‑approved tariff, display the approved fare card until meter recalibration is completed, and continue to provide safe, respectful and reliable services to the public. It described the revision as a long‑awaited and significant relief for auto workers across Telangana.
For more than 12 years, auto workers had been demanding a realistic revision of meter fares in view of rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, insurance charges, spare parts expenses, loan instalments and the increasing cost of living. The government’s decision recognises these hardships and is expected to improve minimum daily earnings by approximately ₹400 to ₹600, depending on trips and kilometres operated in a day.
The union expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, the Telangana government, the Transport Department and officials who considered the long‑standing demand of auto workers with sensitivity and urgency.
