Five Held With Ganja Worth ₹1.12 Lakh
Five arrested in Mahabubabad for allegedly smuggling 2.24 kg of ganja from Odisha to Nalgonda. Police seized the contraband, a car, mobile phones and cash.
Maripeda police arrested five persons for allegedly smuggling ganja from Odisha to Nalgonda district and seized 2.24 kg of dried ganja worth `1.12 lakh, along with a Maruti Suzuki Baleno car, four mobile phones and `1,500 in cash.
According to Maripeda Circle Inspector L. Pawan Kumar, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Gandrathi Satish, along with constables Islavat Ravinder, Ramesh, Venkanna and woman constable Shantha, was conducting vehicle checks near the Purushottamayagudem bridge when they signalled a speeding Baleno car to stop. The driver allegedly attempted to flee, but the vehicle was intercepted.
During the search, police recovered a packet of ganja concealed beneath the driver's seat. Further inspection led to the seizure of a total of 2.24 kg of dried ganja from the vehicle.
The accused were identified as Gandikota Vamsi (24), Chitram Rakesh (22), Chintala Tirumalesh (24), Kanchi Mahesh (25) and Madasu Mahesh (26).
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they had hired the car on a self-drive basis in Nalgonda, travelled to Odisha to procure the contraband and were transporting it to Nalgonda district for sale to make quick money.
Police registered a case and remanded the accused to judicial custody. The seized ganja, vehicle, mobile phones and cash have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
