Nalgonda: A fire broke out in Unit-3 of the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant at Veerlapalem in Damaracherla mandal of Nalgonda district on Sunday. No casualties were reported.

The incident occurred in the turbine-driven boiler feed pump (TDBFP), a key component in thermal power generation. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the unit, visible from several kilometres, causing concern among residents in nearby areas.

Plant staff and officials brought the fire under control using in-house firefighting systems.

Officials of Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO), who inspected the site, said preliminary assessment indicated that the fire may have been caused by leakage of lubrication oil at the pump.

They said control cables and valves were damaged, while major equipment such as turbines and boilers remained unaffected. The loss is estimated at around Rs 2 crore.

Unit-3 had recently completed commercial operations on May 13 after running continuously for 72 hours, generating an average of 811.99 MW against its rated capacity of 800 MW.

This is the second such incident at the plant, following a fire reported in Unit-1 last year.
