Family Stages Protest With Body of Woman Who Died by Suicide
The protesters withdrew their agitation after police assured them that serious action would be taken against the accused.
Karimnagar: Family members and relatives of Thandra Akshitha, 23, who died by suicide, staged a protest with her body near the municipal office in Godavarikhani on Monday evening, demanding action against those they held responsible for her death.
According to police, Akshitha, a native of Lenin Nagar in Godavarikhani, attempted suicide on September 12 and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Monday evening.
After the post-mortem, her family members and relatives took the body to the municipal office and staged a protest, demanding the arrest of Singareni employee Bommakanti Ravi Kumar, whom they accused of being responsible for her death.
Family members said Akshitha, an engineering graduate, was undergoing training in Singareni coal mines. They alleged that Ravi Kumar, who worked as a foreman at 2 Incline coal mine, had sexually abused her.
They said they had brought the issue to the notice of Singareni officials but received no response. Upset over the alleged incident, Akshitha attempted suicide, they said.
