An imposter tried to cheat a desperate 75-year-old farmer, who was waiting for his missing son for the past 24 years.

The sage started with the main conspirator Mohan Reddy of Dandumailaram village hatching a plan two months back. He enquired about the elderly farmer Pishapati Laxma Reddy of Sitarampet village, Ibrahimpatnam and collected the names of his wife, five daughters and son Pishapati Srinivas Reddy, who had gone missing from his home since 2002.

Mohan Reddy prepared M. Yadiah, by training him for a month, and executed his plan with an intention to acquire Laxma Reddy’s eight acres of land worth `40 lakh. However, a DNA test saved the elderly farmer from fraudsters. The conspirator and imposter have been detained by Ibrahimpatnam police on Thursday.

Yadiah posed as the farmer’s biological son (aka Abhilash), by taking entry in a Sanyasi get-up. To make the false story look real, Mohan Reddy asked Yadiah to call Laxma Reddy and say, “Dad... I am married... I have two daughters,” a villager said. Mohan Reddy also collected `10,000 from Laxma Reddy, stating that his son Abhilash needed to perform a puja, the officer further said.

“After 24 years I received a call and I was choked with joy when the caller said that he is my son Abhilash. When I asked him where were you, the person said that he had taken Sanyas. But the happiness did not last long till my elder daughter grew suspicious and informed the police. His DNA test was done and that proved he was an imposter,” Laxma Reddy said.

“Abhilash was the only son of Laxma Reddy. All his five daughters were married and the poor elderly desperate man wanted to at least see his missing son once before his death and hand him over the documents of his eight acre land that he had saved for his son for the past 24 years,” Mahinder Reddy, Laxma Reddy’s co brother said.

People of Sitarampet say that Abhilash was reprimanded by Laxma Reddy after he failed his SSC in 2002. Laxma Reddy regretted and even performed several prayers and annadanams since then.

During the investigation, police found that the accused Mohan Reddy, after training Yadaiah, called Laxmareddy on September 16, stating “Your good time has come, your son Abhilash has returned. On September 20 Mohan Reddy called Laxmareddy to Cheruvugattu Temple at the same village, where he introduced accused Yadaiah as his son.
