Cool Spell, Showers Make Monday Pleasant For Hyderabadis

HYDERABAD: A grey, wet Monday greeted the city as rain returned to several parts of the city and its outskirts, with cloudy skies, intermittent showers and a cool spell keeping temperatures down through the day. The city received 4.4 mm of rain according to the IMD. The weather bureau has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers, along with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, for the city for Tuesday.
Rain was heavier in several parts of the Hyderabad region. Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data showed Ghatkesar receiving 16 mm, Keesara 13.5 mm and the Collectorate Complex in Shamirpet 10.3 mm. Medchal Industrial Area recorded 9 mm and Moula Ali 8.5 mm. Rain was also reported at several other locations across the city and surrounding districts.
Across Telangana, the rain was more widespread. Ayyagaripalle in Mahabubabad recorded the highest rainfall at 39 mm, followed by Jaipur in Mancherial with 36.5 mm, Gangaram in Mahabubabad with 33.5 mm and Narsapur in Medak with 32.8 mm. Manchukonda and Kalluru in Khammam recorded 31.5 mm and 31.3 mm respectively.
The IMD said heavy rain had occurred at isolated places in Kamareddy, Vikarabad and Narayanpet. It forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places in Telangana on Tuesday. A yellow warning was issued for isolated heavy rain in 12 districts, including Mancherial, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph were possible across all districts.
The spell is linked to a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha. Its associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to move northwestwards during the next 24 hours. Rain is expected to continue, though with reduced coverage. The IMD has forecast showers at a few places in Telangana on Tuesday and Wednesday and at isolated places from Thursday through Sunday.
