HYDERABAD: The Congress demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged multi-crore theft and embezzlement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

PCC media committee chairman Sama Rammohan Reddy, made a series of sharp allegations against the ruling BJP in centre regarding the ongoing Ayodhya Ram Mandir donation controversy. He noted that the BJP uses religion solely for political gains and asserted that the party owes an explanation to over a billion Hindus worldwide for hurting their religious sentiments.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, the Congress leader alleged that cash from the temple donation boxes, silver bricks, ornaments, and other valuables worth approximately ₹200 crore have been stolen or misappropriated within three years of the temple’s construction. He accused BJP leaders of stealing the deity’s diamond necklace and sacred footwear, stating that “even Lord Ram has become a victim in the hands of the BJP.”

Rammohan Reddy strongly criticised the three-member special investigation team set up by the Uttar Pradesh government. He called the arrests of lower-level staff members a mere eyewash meant to protect high-profile individuals. Drawing parallels to previous major temple investigations like the Sabarimala and Tirupati prasadam issues, he stated that only an independent CBI probe can uncover the full extent of the scam.
