Collector Urges Farmers To Consider Alternative Crops Amid El Niño Drought Concerns
Adilabad Collector Rajarshi Shah directed officials to promote drought-resistant crops, conserve water and prepare for possible drinking water and fodder shortages amid El Niño concerns.
District collector Rajarshi Shah has directed agriculture officials to create awareness among farmers about alternative crops, including those suited to arid conditions, in view of the drought concerns linked to the El Nino effect.
Reviewing drought preparedness on Saturday, the collector directed officials to take up water conservation measures, including the construction of water tubs for cattle and community farm ponds on a saturation basis under VB-G RAM G.
He also instructed officials to create soak pits at water plants to prevent wastage in villages.
The collector said animal husbandry officials should take preventive measures to address a possible fodder shortage for livestock. Health officials were asked to create awareness among people about precautions against hot weather conditions.
Rural water supply officials were directed to identify areas facing drinking water shortages and declining groundwater levels, particularly locations where borewells were drying up.
