CM Revanth to Inaugurate Rejuvenated Sunnam Cheruvu by Month-End
The rejuvenation works are being executed by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
Hyderabad:The rejuvenation of Sunnam Cheruvu in Guttala Begumpet (Madhapur) is under progress and by the end of this month, the rejuvenated water body will be inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The 13-acre water body that was filled with sewage with a portion turned into a garbage dump yard, is now shaping up into a beautiful lake and is now 30 acres after encroachments were removed. The rejuvenation works are being executed by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
Though works are underway, several people, including children, have already started visiting the lake and using the walking tracks too. At this lake, water was being extracted illegally and was being supplied to PG hostels/schools/colleges in and around Madhapur area.
According to the Telangana Pollution Control Board, the water, that used to be supplied fraudulently, had 12 times more than the permissible lead, seven times more than the permissible nickel etc which are carcinogenic.
HYDRAA had to face huge resistance from few locals when encroachments in the lake bed were removed in September 2024 and also fought legal cases to complete the lake rejuvenation, said the department in a press release.
