Bishop Seeks SC Review On Dalit Christian Reservation

NALGONDA: Khammam Catholic Diocese Bishop Sagili Prakash on Friday urged the Supreme Court to review its verdict on Scheduled Caste reservations for Dalit Christians.
He flagged off a ‘Way of the Cross’ procession at the Old Bus Stand Centre in Khammam on the occasion of Good Friday. The rally passed through ZP Centre, NTR Circle and New Bus Stand area before concluding at Kanigiri.
Speaking on the occasion, he said Articles 13, 14 and 25 of the Constitution guarantee individuals the freedom to practise the religion of their choice. He noted that Dalit Christians had embraced Christianity by choice but continued to face social discrimination.
He said Dalits have suffered untouchability and social exclusion for generations, affecting their socio-economic progress, and appealed for a review of the verdict in this context.
Pastors including Surepalli Isaac, Vijay Kumar, G. Suresh, Gova Shouraiah and T. Anthony participated in the procession.
