Adilabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said the Congress party gave 52 per cent reservations in tickets for BCs in the municipal elections, though the government officially allocated only 28 per cent reservations for BCs.
Some 70 per cent of the seats were given to these communities. This, he said, demonstrated the party's commitment to social justice.
Goud was addressing the DCC executive committee meeting in Mancherial and Asifabad districts. He said the Congress came to power because of its hard-working party cadre and second-rung leaders who faced a lot of hardships under the BRS rule.
“We will do justice to the senior cadre, and priority will be given to them in posts and positions in order to strengthen the party from the grassroots level,” he said.
The previous BRS government, he said, was taking huge loans without a purpose and without identifying the sources for repayment. As a result, the present Congress government is paying `6,500 crore towards interest on those loans every month. The exchequer suffered as a result.
In Mancherial, Goud said the Congress government was committed to the welfare and development of the people and reviving the welfare and developmental programmes that were in “cold storage” during the 10 years of BRS rule.
He criticised the BRS and its leaders for doing politics in the name of religion and Sri Ram and added that the BJP does not have a patent on Lord Sri Ram. The Congress also has cadres that worship Lord Sri Ram. The BJP government at the Centre, he said, failed to provide the 5 crore jobs Narendra Modi promised.
Goud asked why the BJP government does not supply fine quality rice across the country, as the Congress now does in the state.
He said Premsagar Rao had contributed a lot to strengthening the party in the area, and hoped the party high command would recognise his services.
Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao highlighted the welfare and development schemes being implemented in the state and asked Congress workers to take the message to the doorsteps of the people. Minister Vivek said the party is giving priority to the senior cadre and trying to strengthen the party at the grassroots.
Mancherial MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao said the Congress party must give top priority to the cadre and second-rung leaders in order to strengthen the party from the grassroots. Otherwise, the party would lose its base.
The party and government, he said, are separate. The party should take care of the cadre. AICC secretary Sachin Sawant, Mancherial DCC Pinninti Raghunath Reddy and other local leaders were present.
A DCC meeting was conducted in Asifabad too, in which MLC Dande Vittal, assembly constituency in-charge Shyam Naik, former DCC president Vishwa Prasad, former MLA Atam Sakku, DCC president Atram Suguna and other senior leaders were present.
