ASI Launches BharatSHRI Portal: Free Access to Thousands of Digitised Inscriptions Online
The online collection hosts 13,986 metadata records, 9,967 transcripts and 10,116 digitised estampages of inscriptions providing access to first-hand records of India’s past.
Hyderabad:Researchers, scholars and the general public can now access digitised epigraphical records free of cost through the Bharat Shared Repository of Inscriptions (BharatSHRI) launched by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The epigraphical data is hosted on the website https://bharatshri.asi.gov.in/.
The online collection hosts 13,986 metadata records, 9,967 transcripts and 10,116 digitised estampages of inscriptions providing access to first-hand records of India’s past.
Around 6,000 inscriptions from Telangana, dating from the Satavahana period to the medieval era, were being digitised, with some already made available on the website.
Dr K. Muniratnam Reddy, director (epigraphy) ASI, said the platform, which was under development, would be expanded in phases and more than 80,000 inscriptions uploaded, creating one of India's largest digital archives of epigraphical records.
The inscriptions, regarded as first-hand historical sources, provide authentic insights into India's rich cultural heritage and history, said, adding that researchers could access them online instead of visiting the ASI Mysore office.
