Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) detected assets worth over Rs.5 crore by document value with Thummakomma Sucharitha, suspended Shamirpet tahsildar and joint sub-registrar, during searches at her residence and those of her relatives, benamis and associates on Thursday. The searches were part of an ongoing investigation into alleged disproportionate assets with Sucharita, who was arrested last month in a Rs.30 lakh bribery case.

According to the ACB, they found documents relating to 2.17 acres of agricultural land at Damarakunta in Siddipet district, three flats at different locations in Hyderabad and two plots at Keesara and Khanamet with the official. Officials also found around `12 lakh in cash, gold and diamond ornaments worth approximately Rs.1.20 crore, bank balances of Rs.38 lakh as well as two cars.

The bureau said the total document value of the assets detected during the searches was Rs.5,05,52,465, while the market value of the immovable properties is expected to be substantially higher. Verification of additional assets is underway.

The searches are part of the investigation that followed Sucharitha's arrest on May 26 when ACB officials allegedly caught her demanding a Rs.30-lakh bribe and accepting Rs.2 lakh as part payment through her private driver V. Nagesh, for processing and approving nala conversion applications for 30 acres of agricultural land in Shamirpet Mandal. The cash was recovered from the driver's possession, and he and the official were arrested.

Following the trap, Sucharitha was placed under suspension and remains in judicial custody. The ACB said the disproportionate assets investigation was continuing to ascertain whether she acquired assets beyond her known sources of income through corrupt practices during her service.

In earlier cases reported this month. the ACB arrested prohibition and excise superintendent Malla Reddy in Nizamabad with several assets, including ₹1.5 crore and gold and diamond jewellery in bank lockers of his wife
