Geo Map Society Founder Major Shiva Kiran Passes Away
Major Kiran was born on February 18, 1966, and is survived by his family and admirers from the geospatial, educational and social sectors.
Hyderabad: Major Shiva Kiran Guntur (retd), founder of Geo Map Society and a well-known advocate of geospatial technologies, passed away late on Thursday night following complications arising from a surgery. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the past two weeks.
Major Kiran was born on February 18, 1966, and is survived by his family and admirers from the geospatial, educational and social sectors.
The family said members of the public may pay their last respects between 9 am and 1 pm on June 26 at his residence: 6-3-1216/50, Nest Apartments, Kundanbagh, Begumpet. The last rites will be performed at Mahaprasthanam, Jubilee Hills, at 3 pm on Friday.
As a member of Numaish, Major Shiva Kiran was actively involved in the annual exhibition and played a key role in its smooth conduct through several initiatives and organisational efforts.
Through Geo Map Society, he worked extensively to promote geospatial education and technology. Recently, he led a GIS and drone mapping workshop for school teachers under the GEOTOP programme and had plans to expand the initiative to government educational institutions across the state.
