Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Friday said over 3.45 crore people aged 18 to 28 had joined the formal workforce between April 2020 and 2025 under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
Speaking at a programme held at RTC Kala Bhavan here, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address was aired virtually, the Union minister said nearly 80 lakh youth enter the workforce every year. In Telangana, more than 25,000 organisations have registered under the scheme, committing to generating employment.
He said the Centre had distributed appointment letters to over 12 lakh youths through Rozgar Melas, with the Prime Minister handing them over. Citing data from the National Career Service portal, he said the private sector would need to generate over 3.43 crore jobs in the current financial year. He added that by 2026, nearly 66 per cent of new entrants to the global workforce would be from India.
Organisers said the scheme supported first-time entrants into formal employment by assisting them in acquiring skills and adapting to workplace requirements. With an outlay of ₹99,446 crore, it aims to support over 3.5 crore jobs within two years. A component provides a one-time incentive of up to ₹15,000 to first-time employees.
Addressing the gathering, Kishan Reddy said, “For any developed nation, its true strength lies in its workforce and its youth power. Key infrastructure sectors — such as railways, roads, industry, technology, and various infrastructure projects — contribute significantly to development. However, it is the dedication and skills of crores of people, and their hard work across various sectors, that truly drive a nation's progress,” the minister said.
