Hyderabad: A fast-track court for Pocso cases on Friday sentenced Voosa Venkata Narayana, an 81-year-old retired HMWSS&B superintendent, to 21 years of imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl, and imposed a fine of ₹30,000. The court directed the convict to pay ₹4 lakh to the victim as compensation.
The judgment was delivered by Judge M.K. Padmavathi of the fast track court for trial and disposal of rape and Pocso Act cases at LB Nagar, Rangareddy district.
According to police, Narayana, who stayed in a house near the minor’s residence, came into contact with a 12-year-old girl while she was playing with other children in the colony. Narayana gained the child’s trust by offering her biscuits and chocolates and lured her to his house nearby.
When informed, the victim’s father, suspicious of Narayana's alleged behaviour, went to the accused's house and witnessed him assaulting the minor. The victim’s parents later learned that the victim had been sexually assaulted multiple times.
The family approached the Chaitanyapuri police and lodged a complaint in March 2023. Police registered a case, initiated an investigation and booked Narayana.
