Hyderabad: In two separate incidents reported from the city suburbs, a 44‑year‑old man and a 27‑year‑old woman allegedly died by suicide following prolonged family disputes in Jawaharnagar and Vanasthalipuram police station limits.

In the first incident, Medipeta Prakash, 44, a resident of C.S. Nagar in Yellareddyguda, died by suicide at his residence on Thursday evening. According to Jawaharnagar police, Prakash had been facing marital discord with his wife for the past two years. Family members said he had previously attempted suicide and was rescued after being shifted to hospital.

Police said that around 7.50 pm on Thursday, Prakash called his younger brother, Baswaraj and informed him about a fresh argument with his wife. When repeated phone calls went unanswered, relatives contacted a neighbour, who found that Prakash had allegedly hanged himself using a dog leash belt. He was shifted to Lifeline Hospital in Kapra, where doctors declared him dead around 8.50 pm. A case was registered and investigation is underway.

In another incident in Vanasthalipuram, a 27‑year‑old woman, Ottipalli Swathi, died by suicide at her residence in Vijay Nagar Colony on Friday morning.

Police said Swathi, who married Balakrishna in 2021, is survived by two daughters aged four and two. Her family alleged that Balakrishna, a welder, was addicted to alcohol, online gaming and betting, and frequently harassed her for dowry. Following an argument on Thursday, Swathi hanged herself in a bedroom while family members were asleep in the hall. A case was registered based on a complaint lodged by her father, and investigation is underway.
