Chennai: The field units of Singappen Special Force have responded to 1,045 complaints on the spot in the month of September leading to the registration of 75 criminal cases. Further the teams aided in the tracing of 15 women and 16 children who were reported missing. The SSF team’s intervention led to the arrest of the accused who misbehaved with a girl in an MTC bus, taking videos of a woman in Koyambedu and sexually assaulting a plus-2 girl in Tenkasi.

The team also conducted repeated visits to 57,183 identified hotspots to strengthen preventive measures and ensure the safety of vulnerable persons. Further, SSF personnel rescued 25 intellectually disabled persons and prevented 17 child marriages, and facilitated the re-enrolment of 227 school dropout children through timely intervention, a press release from the DGP office here said.

As part of its preventive and community outreach initiatives, the team conducted 2,812 awareness programmes in educational institutions, 11,787 awareness programmes at other locations, and 706 awareness programmes among migrant labourers.

The DGP also highlighted the notable achievements of SSF in the month. On September 27, when the Flower Bazaar Singappen Special Force team was on patrol, a 19-year-old woman who had alighted from an MTC bus approached them and informed them that a man had allegedly misbehaved with her during the journey. The SSF immediately apprehended the person and handed him over to the jurisdiction Police.

During an awareness programme conducted by the Tenkasi district SSF team at a school, it was noticed that a 17-year-old plus-2 student was absent for the past 2 months. The SSF team made a spot enquiry with the student, which revealed that her 2 neighbours had allegedly sexually assaulted and threatened her on several occasions. Thereby she had stopped attending school. The SSF team informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and facilitated appropriate action. A case was registered and the accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

On September 29, while the Koyambedu SSF was on patrol, they received information regarding the harassment of a woman. The team immediately reached the spot and enquired with the woman. She stated that a person had video recorded her on his mobile phone without her consent. Based on her complaint, the accused was arrested.
