Tiruchy: Former Isro chairman Sivan has said El Niño had a strong impact this year, reducing rainfall drastically. He hoped the hostile weather phenomenon would scale down in the future.

Addressing a media conference at Tiruchy airport on Saturday, he said although there are challenges, scientists are now predicting long-term climate changes with the help of new technologies and advanced models.

He said technology advancements for the Gaganyaan mission are actively underway. If the pioneer test missions are successfully completed, the next phase of the project will gain momentum and the mission to send humans into space will fructify, he said.

He pointed out that space research is not just about building rockets or satellites; its applications provide immense benefits to various sectors, including the general public and national security.
