CM Vijay’s Divorce Case Withdrawn as Wife Drops Petition

Chennai:The divorce proceedings involving Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay came to an end on Friday after his wife, Sangeetha, withdrew her matrimonial petition before the family court in Chengalpet.
According to the court records, the petition was e-filed on February 24, 2026, and the first hearing was held on February 26. The matter was heard on multiple occasions before being disposed of on Friday.
The court records show the case status as ‘disposed’ and the nature of disposal as ‘uncontested – withdrawn’.
The petition had been filed under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, seeking dissolution of marriage and other related reliefs.
The case history indicates that after the initial hearing on February 26 for issuance of summons, subsequent hearings were held on April 20 and June 15 for the appearance of the parties before the matter was finally taken up on Friday.
During Friday’s proceedings, Sangeetha appeared before the court through video-conferencing. According to the court order, her counsel filed a petition seeking permission to withdraw the matrimonial case.
Sangeetha personally confirmed before the court that she did not wish to proceed further and had voluntarily decided to withdraw the petition.
The order records that notice was served on Vijay’s counsel, who raised no objection to the withdrawal request.

Earlier in the day, sources had indicated that Vijay’s counsel had sought an adjournment, citing the ongoing Assembly session. However, the petitioner’s side requested that the matter be heard on Friday. The court later took up the case in the afternoon, during which Sangeetha participated through video-conferencing and explained her decision before the judge.
With the withdrawal petition being allowed, the matrimonial dispute has, for the present, come to a close without any adjudication on the merits of the case.
