Chennai: Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced elections to 27 seats in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha), including the by-election to fill up the seat vacated by AIADMK leader C Ve Shanmugham after his election as MLA in the recent Assembly polls.
Filing of nominations began at 11 00 am on June 1 and the last date for filing of nominations would be June 8, 2026, according to the notification issued by the ECI, which has appointed Returning
Officers and Assistant Returning Officers.

In case of contests, elections would be on June 18, from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm followed by
the counting of votes at 5.00 pm
