Perambalur: Two sleeping migrant workers were crushed to death when an earthmover ran over them near a petrol bunk at Chenseri village near Perambalur on the Perambalur-Thuraiyur highway in the wee hours of Sunday.

Rupesh Kumar Chari (25) and Dakishwar (21) of Chhattisgarh were sleeping after finishing their work when driver Santhosh Raj (24) of Thambiranpatti village drove the earthmover without noticing them. Police arrested the driver.

20 kg of sea cucumber seized from bus

Forest officials seized 20 kg of the banned sea cucumber while being transported on a TNSTC bus by P. Seenidasan (41) of Vallavanpattinam in Thanjavur district, at Manamelkudi in Pudukkottai district on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the team led by Manamelkudi forest ranger Saravanan intercepted the bus and seized the contraband, which was headed to Keelakarai.
