KSIC Mother Unit Gets Notice From Pollution Control Board, Lop Doubts A Well-Planned Conspiracy To Shut The Unit
“It is a well-planned conspiracy to cripple the KSIC mother unit and damage Mysore Silk sarees, a globally renowned brand”: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Leader of Opposition R. Ashok
BENGALURU: A show-cause notice has been served on Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited (KSIC) mother unit at T. Narsipur on Mysuru district by officials of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Mysuru over non-compliance of environment norms. KSIC makes Mysore Silk sarees and mother unit produces yarn needed to weave silk sarees.
The show-cause served on the mother unit of KSIC at T. Narsipur was after conducting sample testing and KSPCB sources told Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday said the show-cause notice was served about 10-days back. In the show-cause notice served on KSIC, KSPCB officials have asked KSIC to comply with environment norms.
The source in KSPCB said “The Effluent Treatment Plant at KSIC mother unit of T. Narsipur is old and the EPT requires upgradation of its filters among others.” The EPT at the KSIC is old and has not undergone an upgrade.
However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Leader of Opposition R. Ashok doubted the purpose of show-cause served on KSIC mother unit of T. Narsipur is an attempt to snatch 5-acre of land belonging to KSIC mother unit.
“It is a well-planned conspiracy to cripple the KSIC mother unit and damage Mysore Silk sarees, a globally renowned brand,” he doubted. “A compliance trap to shut the unit,” alleged the Leader of Opposition and recalled KSIC’s own technical report that made it clear that 5-acre is essential to build an EPT. But, the State Government transferred 5-acre of KSIC land to the department of sports and youth empowerment to get a stadium constructed.
“Even after announcing on the floor of the Assembly that the stadium project has been dropped, the ruling Congress government continues its backdoor attempts to grab KSIC land,” alleged Ashok.
