Ballari: Auto-rickshaw drivers in Ballari staged a sudden protest on Wednesday afternoon, voicing anger over a sudden steep hike in auto LPG prices.

The protest was triggered, allegedly after the price of LPG at a gas station jumped from Rs 84.85 per litre to Rs 94. Drivers alleged that the sudden increase, without prior notice, has added to their financial burden.

As the protest intensified, police rushed to the spot and held talks with both the agitating drivers and the gas station owners. After discussions, the station owners agreed to sell the available stock for the day at the earlier rate of Rs 84.85 per litre.

Following this assurance, the drivers withdrew their protest.

Sources said that of the six auto gas stations in the city, four have already shut down, leading to limited supply and further inconvenience for drivers.
