Officials of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Wednesday inspected a model polling station and the vote-counting centre as part of preparations for the municipal elections-2026.

Municipal commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra and others went to the model polling station in Varalakshmi Nagar and the counting centre at Andhra Loyola College, where ballot boxes would be brought after polling.

The model polling station demonstrates voting procedures, including voter identification, marking ballot papers and ways for depositing them in ballot boxes, as well as the responsibilities of presiding officers and polling staff.

The commissioner said a model polling station had been established for every constituency under the VMC to familiarise voters with the process. He urged voters to visit these centres and understand the procedures before casting their votes.

At Andhra Loyola College, he reviewed arrangements for transporting and securely storing ballot boxes, counting tables, counting rounds, staff deployment and essential infrastructure.

Separately, the VMC organised a training programme for presiding officers at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on Wednesday.

The commissioner advised election officials to clarify their doubts during training and discharge their duties responsibly to prevent disruptions.

The training covered polling procedures, election materials and regulations to be followed during and after polling.
