SIMBEX-2026 In Vizag -- Strengthening Naval Ties With Singapore
The exercise will take place in two phases: Reports
VISAKHAPATNAM: The 33rd edition of the Singapore–India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX-2026) began here on Wednesday with the arrival of Navy ship RSS Supreme of Singapore.
The opening ceremony was held aboard Indian Navy ships INS Nilgiri and INS Kamorta. Senior officers from both navies attended the event, including the chief staff officer (operations) of Eastern Naval Command, and the fleet commander of the Singapore Navy.
Launched in 1994 as Exercise Lion King, SIMBEX has evolved into a key platform for maritime cooperation between the two countries. Over the years, the exercise has expanded in scope and complexity, strengthening professional exchanges, mutual understanding and the two navies’ ability to operate together.
The exercise will take place in two phases. The harbour phase, from October 21 to 23, would feature professional interactions, subject-matter expert exchanges, cross-deck visits, sporting events and planning conferences. The sea phase, scheduled for October 24 to 26 in the Bay of Bengal, would include anti-submarine, anti-surface and anti-air warfare drills, tactical manoeuvres and seamanship exercises.
Naval officials said SIMBEX-2026 underscores India and Singapore's strong maritime partnership and shared commitment to regional security. The exercise also reflects their resolve to address common maritime challenges and promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
