NTR Varsity Rebuffs Irregularities In MBBS Seat Allocation
Liberation Congress president Vijay Kumar alleged that Dr NTR University of Health Sciences was using specially designed software to prevent BC, SC and ST candidates: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Liberation Congress president Vijay Kumar alleged that Dr NTR University of Health Sciences was using specially designed software to prevent BC, SC and ST candidates from entering the open competition category in MBBS admissions from the second round of counselling onwards, despite their ranks and eligibility.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, he alleged that the software prevented reserved category candidates from entering the open competition category even when they secured better ranks. He claimed that although candidates from reserved categories accounted for more than 50 per cent of the merit list, nearly 90 per cent of those entering the open competition category from the second round onwards belonged to upper castes.
Kumar alleged that the software allowed reserved category candidates to upgrade only their college from the second round onwards, while preventing them from upgrading their category.
Citing an example, he said a BC candidate, allotted an MBBS seat under the reserved category at Guntur Medical College in the first round, should be able to apply for colleges higher in preference based on the candidate’s rank. He said candidates should be allowed to apply to all colleges, including the one allotted in the first round, during college upgradation.
He criticised the government for failing to provide category upgradation to eligible candidates, alleging that this had resulted in an estimated 60 to 70 reserved category candidates losing opportunities.
Andhra Pradesh Medical Parents’ Association president Dr Ala Venkateswarlu alleged that officials responsible for designing the software were acting against the interests of reserved category candidates and disregarding Supreme Court judgments and state government orders. He said the officials should be arrested and demanded clear rules to ensure transparency in medical admissions and prevent injustice to reserved category candidates.
Meanwhile, Dr T. Sai Sudheer, registrar of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, condemned what he described as a misinformation campaign over the allotment of MBBS seats to reserved category candidates.
In a statement, he said that of the 4,581 MBBS admissions, 3,543 seats had been allotted to reserved category candidates, including 1,213 seats in the open category on the basis of merit.
He said MBBS admissions for the 2026-27 academic year were based on NEET-UG ranks. After three rounds of counselling, 1,213 of the 2,026 seats had been allotted to reserved category candidates on merit, accounting for 59.87 per cent.
