AP: Vijayawada, Guntur Railway Divisions Report Record Revenue, Improved Performance

Infrastructure upgrades included commissioning over 152 km of automatic block signalling and 50 km of third line, along with speed enhancements up to 110 kmph.

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada and Guntur divisions of South Central Railway (SCR) recorded strong performance in 2025–26, achieving record revenues, improved punctuality and major gains in infrastructure and passenger amenities.

Divisional railway manager Mohit Sonakiya said the Vijayawada Division registered its highest-ever freight loading of 40.631 million tonnes and record gross revenue of ₹5,907.20 crore, including ₹1,523.90 crore from passenger earnings. The division handled 74.19 million passengers and recorded nearly 10 per cent growth.
Freight earnings stood at ₹4,166 crore despite concessions to the power sector, while ticket-checking revenue reached a record ₹76.34 crore. Punctuality improved to 86.74 per cent.
Infrastructure upgrades included commissioning over 152 km of automatic block signalling and 50 km of third line, along with speed enhancements up to 110 kmph. Passenger amenities were strengthened with new lifts, escalators and foot overbridges, while 31 level crossings were eliminated and over 5,200 special trains operated during festivals.
In Guntur, DRM Sudeshna Sen said the division recorded total earnings of ₹766.57 crore, a growth of 7.65 per cent. Goods revenue contributed ₹452.13 crore, with record monthly loading in March.
The division achieved punctuality of 93.12 per cent for Mail and Express trains, including 24 instances of 100 per cent punctuality, and operated over 2,200 special trains.
Infrastructure development included doubling of key sections, new lines and electrification works. Passenger amenities were enhanced through Amrit station upgrades, Divyangjan-friendly facilities, lifts and services such as a capsule hotel and app-based cab services at Guntur station.
Both divisions also focused on sustainability through solar power initiatives and staff welfare measures.
Officials lauded railway staff for the performance and reaffirmed their commitment to improving safety, efficiency and passenger services.
