KURNOOL: District collector Dr A. Siri has directed officials to establish five generic veterinary medicine outlets across Kurnool district to cater to the needs of sheep and goat populations.

Chairing a review meeting on Thursday, the collector asked the animal husbandry department to identify locations with high livestock density, including Kurnool, Adoni, Pattikonda, Kodumur and Holagunda. The outlets will be set up in government veterinary hospital premises or other government buildings as per guidelines.

Dr Siri directed officials to expedite rent and lease proposals through the R&B and revenue departments, while the drug control administration will handle licensing. Four outlets will be operated by sheep cooperative societies and one by a self-help group.

Animal husbandry joint director Hemant Kumar said each unit would cost ₹3.61 lakh, with a subsidy of ₹1.5 lakh to be provided under central and state schemes.
