NELLORE: Jubilant celebrations swept across Nellore district on Thursday after Parliament approved legal status for Amaravati as the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Youth, students, public representatives and citizens took to the streets, hailing the move as a historic milestone. Bike rallies and processions were organised across towns, with slogans of “Jai Amaravati” echoing through the streets.
Celebrations were also held in educational institutions, where students cut cakes to mark the occasion. Women participated by decorating their homes with rangoli and lighting lamps.
A rally was conducted from VRC Centre to the Gandhi statue in Nellore city, while women under the aegis of MEPMA lit lamps and drew rangoli at Mypad Gate Smart Street Bazaar.
Participants thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, calling it a proud moment for Telugu people and a new chapter in the state’s development.
