Two Die, Several Injured in Accident Near Pullampet

Kadapa: A nine-month-old infant was among two persons dead while 16 others were injured in a road accident near Udumvaripalle in Pullampet mandal of Tirupati district shortly after midnight on Sunday.

According to police, a super luxury bus travelling from Tirupati to Kadapa collided head-on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. In its impact, several passengers suffered grievous injuries.

Nine-month-old Puneeth Sai died on the spot, while K. Jaswika, 16, from Srikalahasti succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Kadapa.

Eyewitnesses said some passengers suffered severe injuries, with a few losing their limbs.

Police rushed in and shifted the injured to RIMS in 108 ambulances. The condition of several injured was reported critical.

Kadapa municipal commissioner H.S. Bhavana visited the hospital and stated, “All possible medical assistance will be extended to the victims without any delay.”

Postmortem of the deceased was conducted at RIMS.

Transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. “The government will extend all possible support to the victims’ families. Steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in future,” he said, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
